BEST 4TH OF JULY EVER!
Eve and I both agreed this was the best 4th of July ever for us (Joe,Les and the kids later claimed the same). So much fun was had by all and those who came and we now found our favorite place in Colorado (yes there is great sledding near by). I will let the pictures show the story.

Nice avalanche run up Ophir pass, this thing ran over 3000 vertical feet before it hit the trees below...nice!

Eve and I took a drive before the rest of the party arrived.
Its nice when you can drive to 13k instead of hiking huh Eve!
Look who showed up! (that was the longest car ride EVER!)
And then camp was ready for all of us.
After some bathing,
Some serious male rock throwing
It was time for the Ouray 4th of July celebration, first the firefighter water fight.
Second swimming in the natural HOT swimming pool (I hate swimming but this was awesome)
And finally the Jeep night parade and fireworks, pictures or words can't describe what this was like, 70 jeeps paraded down the switchbacks into town with flares on for headlights...cool, and then the fireworks show. We staked out a really great spot earlier and got a little lucky, we waited for the show to start and little did we know that the spot we were in was empty because it was within the firing zone for the fireworks show! If you haven't sat 100 ft from where they launch these things you've got to try it sometime. we all agreed that this was the BEST fireworks we've ever seen, with the canyon echo and the close proximity it was pure euphoria for all of us.
Before heading home we hiked to one of the many waterfalls near by, Box canon falls
Ouray is an incredible place, we didn't get to see the half of what this place has to offer, we will be back. The San Juans are spectacular, its good that they are far from anything because these mountains put all other mountain ranges to shame that I have seen in my life. Maybe that will change some day.

As a Tippetts, I will weigh in about the food. We ate dutch oven potatoes, carrots and chicken on the first night with dutch oven rolls that sopped up Eve's butter sauce; breakfast burritos the next morning (tortillas and salsa were my favorite); Leslie's dutch oven debut with tandori chicken and rice the next night; fire popped corn for the fire works show (might be the favorite item); lots of Coke and Dr. Pepper; and oatmeal and fruit for breakfast the next day.
Great pictures, Dev. I like the avalanche one.
